An exploration in colour and form.

Ever since I can remember, I have loved Art, crafts and making things, so there is no wonder that I have found myself creating a handmade business.

I have a degree in woven textiles from Loughborough University and then spent 10 years working at John Lewis as a visual merchandiser where I was responsible for designing the windows. In 2005 I retrained as a secondary school Art teacher and I still teach now, it is a real passion of mine, I love teaching and I'm proud that I work with such creative young people.

'hello terry' was born during 2016 when I rediscovered polymer clay, something that I had played with as a child. Having decided to make a few necklaces from the clay, I realised that I could create jewellery that had a clean contemporary edge, I really love this aesthetic and have since been refining my technique to create modern, playful pieces of wearable art.

Colour is a huge inspiration for me, but I also take my ideas from my seaside surroundings, art, pattern and mid-century design. I’m always aiming for my pieces to be fun and playful but never childish. I am currently really loving making my mix and match earring collection which are proving very popular!

I design and develop my pieces in my home studio in Brighton. I also sell on Etsy and I try to get out to sell at markets in and around my local area. A massive highlight for me recently is having hello terry jewellery stocked in the shop in the Hayward Gallery on the Southbank in London.

Oh and if you are wondering, my name isn’t Terry (it’s Claire) but my brand is named after a talking Raven called Terry, who said “hello terry” in a very deep voice. Its very random and has literally nothing to do with colourful jewellery, but after searching for a quirky name for my brand I liked the idea of calling it after the cheeky chap and its stuck!
